When I was younger, the capsule wardrobe concept wasn’t a yet a thing, or I was putting my energy into other activities (like buiding my career, overviewing a deep home renovation or becoming a mother…). Now that I’ve reached let’s say some stability in those parts of my life, I’m willing to build a capsule wardrobe.

What’s a capsule wardrobe & why you’ll love it 💗
A capsule wardrobe is a carefully curated collection of clothing pieces
that can be mixed and matched to create multiple outfits.
Instead of a closet overflowing with clothes you rarely wear, you focus on versatile, high-quality essentials that truly work for you. The advantages are clear:
- decision fatigue reduction : you’ll save time getting dressed,
- easier shopping, you will shop more intentionally,
- confident boost in clothes that reflect your personal style.
Plus, it’s a more sustainable way of living—less waste and fewer impulse buys.
As a sewist, I find it super important to define my capsule wardrobe
to make sure all the time & money invested
will turn into amazing clothes!
Usually during the late August to mid-September, when it’s time to get back to work after summer vacation, we feel the need to change some things in our life to make it simpler. Your wardrobe can be a good starting point, as you litteraly wear your pieces of clothing every day and it can have a big impact.
A ton of capsule wardrobes exemples are available on social media, but you probably have the feeling that none really fits you. So let’s create our own wardrobe capsule now following 5 steps!
Every body is unique, with its own strengths and features we love, as well as areas we might feel less confident about. The key is getting to know yourself—understanding your body, embracing it fully and learning how to highlight what makes you feel good. When you accept yourself and dress in a way that brings out your best, you create harmony with your body and radiate confidence from within.
Step 1: Find what can fit you & suit your lifestyle 🔎
Before buying anything, take a moment to reflect on your body shape & your current life style and habits.
The 6 body shapes
- ⌛ Hourglass body shape: Balanced shoulders and hips with a well-defined waist. Often considered the “classic” feminine silhouette.
- 8 Soft Hourglass body shape: Similar to the hourglass but with softer curves and slightly more rounded hips or thighs.
- 🍐 Pear body shape / Triangle body shape: Hips are wider than shoulders, with weight carried mostly on the lower body.
- 🔻Inverted Triangle body shape: Hips are wider than shoulders, with weight carried mostly on the lower body.
- 🗒️ Rectangle body shape / Straight body shape: Shoulders, waist, and hips are aligned, with little waist definition and a straighter silhouette.
- 🍎Apple body shape / Oval body shape: Weight is concentrated around the midsection, with a fuller waist and slimmer legs.
Not sure to know what’s your body shape? Here a quick quizz : https://youreverydaystyle.com/body-shape-quiz-3/
Kibbe body type
Maybe you already know your body shape, but you would like to dive a bit deeper into body shape advices? I have good news, the Kibbe body type quizz, that will also take into account bone structure, body flesh and facial features.
David Kibbe described in his book Metamorphosis (published in 1987) 13 style types and categorised into 5 style families:
- Dramatics
- Naturals
- Classics
- Romantics
- Gamines
Discover your Kibbe body type here: https://theconceptwardrobe.com/kibbe-body-types/the-kibbe-body-type-test
Maybe you will feel in the middle of 2 Kibbe body types, or you feel different from your body type: then it’s an “essence“. For exemple you could have a round, petite “Romantic” body type but don’t feel like wearing ruffles and fluffy things as you feel you have the “Gamines” essence.
That’s perfectly ok as you are unique in your own way! Do pick what feels the most like you.
Find your Style Roots 🌞🏔️🍄🌜🔥🌱🌺💎
Ellie Jean Royen is a personal stylist that has created a “Style Roots” test. You need to pick between 2 to 4 available Style Roots to help you define what’s your inner style:
- Sun
- Mountain
- Mushroom
- Moon
- Fire
- Earth
- Stone
- Flower

This step is all about aligning your wardrobe with your real lifestyle — not an idealized version of it.
Your life style 💼🏃♀️🍸🏞️
Note everything that comes to your mind down about what you like wearing or not so you can’t get a list of Do & Don’t shopping list items.
- What does your daily life look like? Office meetings, working from home, evenings out, or school runs?
- What cuts and colors make you feel confident and comfortable ?
Congratulations! Now that you’ve reflected on your body shape, your Kibbe body type, your Style Roots and your life style, you’re ready for step 2: building your moodboard. Stay tuned!
